LOOKING BACK

This  Website describes several aid projects  provided at Kyema, a village in Uganda; as a result of a personal appeal to the people of Meltham to assist the community at Kyema by providing them a safe clean water well.

Mustard Seed is a derivative of the water project which started in 1988 to provide a safe water source to a community surrounded with insecurity due political disorder.

The water project opened avenues to the local people who adopted a concept of working together to solve local problems. This led to the building of a community centre which now serves the needs of the community to include a library, a health clinic, a nursery, and village shops.

Political instability led to a breakdown of social order and respect to human rights. A civil war that erupted caused death to innocent people. In the process a lot of men were killed and many women died during child birth due to lack of medical attention, the result was children left with no parents (orphans!)

Care for Orphans

The need to care for orphans led to the formation of the Mustard Seed Project.

This is a family based project where orphans are cared for by foster parents

Children who were referred to merely by their number are today known by their proper names, cared for and loved in a family setting with all the attributes of family belonging..

Currently caring for 22 orphans in foster homes, the project is starting to show results from the children’s scholastic achievements and family stability. Since its inauguration five years ago the project has seen one entrant into higher education and another into a training college.
